Hello hello!
I hope you’re all having a great time watching web2.0 be stripped of all its utility. With Twitter becoming pay-to-play and Bandcamp getting bought out by some weird company that’s already promising layoffs, I did what any rational musician would and posted a song on Bandcamp and tried to promote it on Twitter.
So far – not great! But that’s why I’m writing this Substack post. Without further ado here’s the song. Stick around to the end of the post for a few random thoughts about it.
Thanks!
Alright so here are a few thoughts:
1.) here’s the artwork:
2.) I wrote thing song after trying really hard to make a cover of Local H’s All the Kids are Right but I realized I need another guitar set up for Eb (Db technically) before I can do that. Fortunately my Father-in-Law let me borrow a pretty cool tele he had laying around.
3.) I like to think of this as a “spiritual successor” to Danger City: Population Me, the song I wrote almost a decade and a half ago with Yale, MA. If you haven’t seen that video check this out:
You can see the similarities – both are definitely trying really hard to be Hot Snakes songs.
4.) The outro is a tribute to Pretty & Nice’s Hideaway Tokyo:
5.) The “Things are worse than ever!” drop is from the movie The Dark Knight so I hope Christopher Nolan doesn’t sue me.
I got the inspiration for this drop from the podcast What A Time To Be Alive.
6.) Not related to this song but I just made a new logo for my friend’s podcast, so go check out This is the Greatest Song I’ve Ever Heard in My Entire Life wherever you get podcasts!
Okay! That’s it for now. Thank you for listening to my new song, which I’ll embed again here – just in case you missed it.
